Have you ever met someone really important? Maybe a famous athlete, a celebrity, or even the mayor of your city? When you meet someone important, you probably act differently than you do with your friends. You might use more polite language, speak more respectfully, and be on your best behavior.

When Judah was talking to Joseph (who he thought was just an Egyptian official), he was incredibly polite and respectful. He said things like “Pardon your servant, my lord” and “Do not be angry with your servant.” Even though Judah didn’t know all the proper Egyptian court manners, he was humble, gracious, and respectful.

If we know how to show respect to important people here on earth, how much more should we show respect to God when we pray! God is the King of the entire universe! He created every star, every planet, every animal, and every person. He’s more powerful than all the kings, presidents, and rulers in the world combined.

When we pray, we shouldn’t be scared of God, but we should definitely have a sense of how amazing and awesome He is. We’re not just talking to our friend—we’re talking to the Creator of everything!

Think About It: How do you talk to God when you pray? Do you remember that you’re talking to the King of the universe, or do you sometimes pray carelessly without thinking about who you’re talking to? There’s nothing wrong with talking to God like a loving Father (because He is!), but we should also remember His majesty and greatness. Try starting your prayers this week by acknowledging how awesome God is before you ask Him for things you need.
